That’s true regardless of industry, but it’s always been especially true in collision repair—and these days, those measurements are more important than ever. Why Everybody's Talking About ADAS Calibration

Posted by Chief Technology on Oct 24, 2019 1:00:00 PM

One of the biggest topics making waves in our industry right now is Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS.) These systems include all the sensors and cameras that detect obstacles near a vehicle and warn the driver to prevent them from getting in an accident.

While ADAS is helping keep drivers safer than ever before, it also adds a lot of complexity to the vehicle repair process.

The Five Things Stopping You From Bringing Alignment In-House

Posted by Chief Technology on Sep 4, 2019 7:32:00 AM

There are a lot of potential benefits to bringing wheel alignment in-house at your collision repair shop. You could significantly reduce cycle times, because you won't have to transport the vehicle to a specialty alignment shop and wait for the work to be completed on their schedule. You could bring in more profit, because you'd be able to accurately estimate more alignments and keep all the revenue instead of sharing it with a second shop. And, you could protect your reputation because your team is charge of the repair from start to finish.

After spending hours straightening the frame or unibody, replacing parts and giving the vehicle a nice new coat of paint, it’s time to hand it off to another shop for alignment.

Posted by Chief Technology on Jul 31, 2019 9:21:00 AM

There are a lot of preconceived notions around outsourcing alignment services. Many shops think they can't bring alignment in-house because they lack the space, technician knowledge or budget to make it happen. But that's not the whole story. When you take a closer look at all the costs involved with outsourcing alignment, bringing it in-house starts to make a lot more sense.

Chief Fast Fact: 360-Degree Measuring

Posted by Chief Technology on Nov 30, 2018 4:32:36 PM

How fast can your techs repair a vehicle? It depends on the damage, right? It also depends on whether or not you accurately measured the damage in the first place. This includes the damage you can see with your eyes, and the damage that lies underneath. Before you start pulling, you've got to measure quickly and accurately. That's why you need 360-degree measuring capabilities in your shop.

Thanking the Veterans who Make Chief Proud

Posted by Chief Technology on Nov 11, 2018 10:00:00 AM

There are a lot of men and women at Chief Automotive who go above and beyond to make our customers happy and our products the very best. This Veterans Day, we’re especially grateful to those who have served in our armed forces. There are 37 veterans who bring their talents, drive and commitment to our team. As we thank them all for their service, we invite you to get to know one of our veterans a little bit better.

Meet John Bilton.

What branch did you serve, and for how long?
I served as a Dental Tech in the Navy from 1985 to 1989.

What motivated you to join the military?
I joined the Navy, along with many of my classmates at the same time, as a way to pay for my schooling. I always wanted to travel as I had never really been too far from Madison at that age.

How does your experience in the military help your work at VSG today?
The Navy taught me better self-discipline and how to communicate with my co-workers. It helped me to pay better attention to detail as well.

Tell us a bit about your family and what you like to do outside of work.
I've been married to my wife Kelley for 3 years. We have two children, Brandon and Britany, and two grandsons Max and Eli. We enjoy traveling whenever possible, wine trails, and spending time with our kids and friends. I also really enjoy my co-workers at Chief. I enjoy being a part of this group very much. Good people.
